- Title
The Role of Duress in Crimes Committed by Battered Women.
- Authors
Bowker, Lee H.; Lemon, Nancy K. D.
- Abstract
The article discusses the role of duress in battered women's commission of crimes. It states that when a battered woman has killed her abusive partner, courts allow a defense of battering and its effects (BE) or domestic violence and its effects (DVE). It notes that a duress is playing a role in other crimes committed by the victims as a result of batterer's control of their behavior. It mentions that BE or DVE will explain how a battered woman is imprisoned in a relationship which appears no escape and the mortal danger she feels from her batterer even when he is not battering her.
