- Abstract
Inorganic solar cells have reached a high development, however, the high cost of production reduces their widespread applications. On the other hand, the use of organic materials in solar cells is becoming a new alternative considered by several research groups. Increase of conversion of the solar energy into electricity, the cost reduction for fabrication and the enhancing of the lifetime are some of the factors that drive a fast and increased development of the organic solar cells. To overcome these factors, research groups do their work within a multidisciplinary frame obtaining new organic materials and new cells devices structures. The main energy sources in the past centuries were non-renewable, while the energy produced by organic solar cells is renewable. In this article, it is shown a general overview of this research field pointing out the contributions made by the Optical Properties of Matter research group of the Optical Research Center
