The article discusses a survey of medical students which aims to develop a Native American healthcare elective course at Sanford School of Medicine (SSOM) in South Dakota to better understand their healthcare needs. Topics include the health disparities experienced by the native Americans, the desire and need of the students for an elective course and the recognition of native Americans as a larger part of the patient population.
