- Abstract
The vision of the human being in Uvieta, Carmen Lyra's version, and its coincidence with other versions is presented in this article . The story presents a vision of the human being, which agrees with features emphasized by some humanism theories. The role of the main character as representative of the human being is described and compared. Thus the "core story" or argument is the defeat of Death through various human abilities. Finally, the vision of the human in the story is contrasted with the vision of the humanism selected. All the analysis emerge from different courses in the PhD program of the Latin American Studies of UNA, but, more but more specifically, it was developed in the course Thinking, Culture, and Art (Pensamiento, Cultura y Arte) and from the author's career as a humanistic psychologist there lies the contributions and limitations of the work. It was found that the core story of Uvieta is defeating Death through the human cleverness, its power of action, decision and tendency to goodness in a permanent development closely linked to nature and to a non- dogmatic religiousness.
