- Authors
Moreno Díaz del Campo, Francisco J.
- Abstract
After the war of the Alpujarras, the monitoring of the moriscos expelled from Granada was one of the main concerns of the Hispanic Monarchy. Between 1571 and 1610, the Castilian local authorities lent support to this work in a firm way. One of the most visible results of this policy were the periodic census in which were included data about the main characteristics of the morisco people like name, age, marital status or profession. This paper analyses two of these list, prepared at the end of the 16th century in the villages of Almodóvar del Campo and Almadén, located in the western area of la Mancha, in southern Castile.
