- Abstract
The article focuses on a project undertaken by former U.S. First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt to relocate residents of the Scott's Run area near Morgantown, West Virginia. Roosevelt was overwhelmed by conditions of coal miners and families there and convinced her husband, President Franklin D. Roosevelt, to support the creation of Arthurdale, the first New Deal subsistence homestead.
