- Abstract
Rajhenburg, lying under the homonymous castle, is a typical medieval market town that distinguishes itself from other market towns in the Slovenian territory above all with its relatively late origin and the immediate vicinity of an urban settlement. The paper focuses on the property, demographic, economic and administrative-judicial development of Rajhenburg until the end of the feudal era. Poor research that has so far been done on the history of the market town is the result of little interest devoted to it on one hand and of poorly preserved relevant sources on the other. In the development of its autonomy, the market town was visibly lagging behind its comparable counterparts within the broader area, while in economic terms, it could never step out from the shadow of the town of Krško, nor was it able to draw sufficient advantage from the vicinity of the navigable Sava River.
