- Abstract
My research has demonstrated that Twombly had a key role in fostering a dialogue between American and Italian art, while also exerting an important influence on other young artists working in the city. The interdisciplinary research environment of the British School at Rome has provided an invaluable opportunity to exchange ideas with fellow academics working on different disciplines and periods. In the post-war period, Rome was a city still marked by the recent conflict and, compared to Paris and New York, a peripheral presence in the map of the contemporary art of the time.
