- Abstract
The author discusses Indian writer R. K. Narayan's portrayal of the husband-wife relationship in his novel "The English Teacher" and of relationships among family members in "The Dark Room." Topics addressed include the roles of loneliness and separation as two natural agents of human relationships, the treatment of the husband-wife relationship in the Indian tradition, and comedies of characters and situations. Also mentioned are the roles of love and death in spousal and family relationships.
