Will Bourgois Law and Electoral Politics Really Save Us from (the) Fascist Creep?
- Authors
Street, Paul
- Abstract
The article argues that the US Constitution and electoral politics are not effective safeguards against the rise of fascism in the country. The Constitution is described as anti-democratic and designed to protect the wealth and power of the 18th-century founders. The Electoral College is criticized for its undemocratic nature and its ability to override the popular vote. The article also highlights other flaws in the US voting system, such as gerrymandering, voter suppression, and the disproportionate power of small-population states. The Supreme Court is accused of enabling plutocratic campaign finance practices and making decisions that go against the majority opinion. The article concludes that the current constitutional order is failing to prevent the potential return of a fascist leader like Donald Trump.
