Myanmar's Junta Is in Trouble.
- Authors

- Abstract
Myanmar's military dictatorship, which took power in 2021, is facing increasing threats from resistance forces aligned under a National Unity Government. These forces consist of ethnic minority armies and pro-democracy groups that have come together since the coup. The resistance has been successful in capturing towns and obtaining the surrender of government units. China, while publicly supporting the junta, has been in contact with the rebel groups and has been involved in brokering peace talks. If the resistance forces succeed in overthrowing the junta, there are challenges ahead in terms of building a new Myanmar, including addressing opium production and stagnant economic growth.
