- Title
Fast Fashion Is Antithetical to Workers' Rights.
- Authors
KOLHATKAR, SONALI
- Abstract
The article discusses the issue of fast fashion and its impact on workers' rights, particularly in Bangladesh. The country is the second-largest exporter of apparel in the world and employs over four million workers, mostly women. Garment workers have been protesting for higher wages, demanding a nearly threefold increase to $205 a month. Despite some brands expressing support for higher wages, there are concerns about their commitment, as they have previously underpaid factories and canceled orders, leading to downward pressure on wages. The article highlights the need for the industry to prioritize workers' rights and pay fair wages.
