- Abstract
The article discusses how the lack of affordable housing options, vulnerable urban internally displaced people (IDP) and returnees occupying private and public land without permission exposes Afghans in urban area to sub-standard living conditions and risk of forced eviction. Topics discussed include a review of 16 eviction cases by Norwegian Refugee Council, protection gaps at all stages of eviction and the need for land governance systems particularly regulation of informal settlements.
