The author discusses complementary light emitting diodes (LEDs) technologies, citing significance of luminescence of organic semiconducting molecules and colloidal quantum dots. Topics discussed include development of efficient blue LEDs based on based on gallium nitride, organic light emitting diodes such as amorphous thin-film devices composed of small organic molecules and polymers, using different light source for different application and optical properties of colloidal quantum dots.
