- Abstract
The aim of this study was to develop a checklist for the development, evaluation and reporting of digital health and wellness apps that do not fall under the definition of medical devices. In this article, we describe the process and content of the Qvalidi 2019 checklist. The Qvalidi 2019 checklist was developed based on a scoping review and the work of an expert panel. The checklist was also tested with two user cases and updated based on user experience. A total of 18 articles were included in the scoping review. In addition, applicable laws, regulations, standards and guidelines were compiled and the checklist was revised and developed accordingly. The expert panel consisted of seven experts from the fields of health sciences, medicine and information technology. The panel met to discuss the contents of the checklist and added the core competencies of their expertise to the checklist. Two companies participated in the testing of the checklist. The Qvalidi 2019 checklist contains 49 items that provide a comprehensive view of the strengths and potential areas for improvement of digital Health and Wellness apps. In addition to the basic information, the checklist comprises four sections: health-related content, technical features, user experience and safety.
