- Abstract
The article discusses the career of horticulturist Albert Franklin Yeager, focusing on his time as horticulturist for the North Dakota Agricultural College (NDAC) and North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station (NDAES). Yeager's efforts to breed hardy strains of corn, tomatoes, and winter squash are described. These strains were to be frost-resistant. Along with vegetables, Yeager was also interested in the development of fruit cultivars. The effect of the Great Depression on North Dakota farmers and the NDAC are outlined. Yeager's horticulture work at other U.S. universities is briefly described.
