- Abstract
The article discusses an incident at the Mineral Springs Race Track in Porter County, Indiana, on October 22, 1912, in which members of the Indiana National Guard ended horse racing at the track. It examines gambling and the selective enforcement of gambling law in Indiana in the early 20th century. The article discusses the significance of French Lick, Indiana, Springs Hotel owner Thomas Taggart, then-Indiana governor Thomas Marshall, and Mineral Springs Race Track owner Armanis Francis Knotts in Indiana politics and gambling.
