- Title
A Bit of Water and Elbow Grease: Cleaning as a Motif in New Zealand Drama.
- Authors
Warrington, Lisa
- Abstract
The article discusses the use of the concept of cleaning as a motif of dramas in New Zealand. According to the author, the terms cleaning and cleaners are considered mundane because they are a fact of life and cleaning is regarded as a less desirable occupation. In New Zealand, cleaning is said to serve as a motif for work with a feminist focus and it can also function as an ironic counterpoint because despite being an undesirable job, characters need the job to survive.
