- Abstract
The article offers a critical analysis of the poem "The Wreck of the Deutschland" by Gerard Manley Hopkins. It describes the writing of the poem as a transformative act for Hopkins which is in turn reflected in the poem's two-part form and in performatives, or speech acts, within the poem. The analysis particularly focuses on Stanza 18 of the poem.
