The article offers poetry criticism of the poem “Félise” by Algernon Charles Swinburne. It explores the themes and ideas shared by both Victorian literature and mental science, specifically psychological obsession. The article discusses the role of monomania, an obsessive disorder as described by physician Jean Etienne Esquirol, the obsessive nature of the verse in "Poems and Ballads" by Swinburne and the ways in which "Félise" demonstrate Swinburne's moral and cultural subversiveness.
