- Abstract
The article presents a critical examination into the play "Atalanta in Calydon," by the 19th-century English poet Algernon Charles Swinburne. The central themes of love and pain within the narrative are highlighted. The connections made between the two themes in the play are analyzed and their influences from the pessimistic philosophy of Arthur Schopenhauer are also addressed.
