Aurora Leigh's Radical Youth: Derridean Parergon and the Narrative Frame in "A Vision of Poets.".
- Authors
Johnson, Stephanie L.
- Abstract
The article offers poetry criticism of the poem "A Vision of Poets" by Elizabeth Barrett Browning. It focuses on the nature of the poet's narrative vision in the work, which was published in 1844 in the collection "Poems," as well as in the novel-poem "Aurora Leigh," published in 1856. The works are addressed in light of the concept of the parergon in the thought of critical theorist Jacques Derrida. The poem's presentation of a female poet who challenges the male tradition is examined.
