The article discusses research conducted in Dunedin, New Zealand for assessing the management of riparian land reserves in both rural and urban setting and adjoining streams and the sea coast. It presents the purpose of public riparian strips described in the Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA) which is to provide for public access along to rivers. It also explores the management of riparian reserves to ensure the reserve serves the required purpose.
