The essay discusses the transnational nature of the development of women's rights in Cold War Eastern Europe, with the author arguing against feminist historiography that views this period as characterized by feminist apathy. Topics addressed include the way in which Eastern European women's groups connected women's rights to world peace and the internationalization of the movement through such organizations as the Women's International Democratic Federation (WIDF) and United Nations (UN).
