- Abstract
The frequency of insufficient analgesia for the caesarean section, namely complete failure or partial block, ranges from 0.5 to 17% for spinal anaesthesia and 1.7 to 20% for extension of epidural analgesia. Insufficient analgesia can cause physical and psychological suffering with potentially serious consequences such as post-traumatic stress. A group of multi- and pluriprofessional experts made up of anaesthesiologists, obstetricians, neonatologists, midwives, psychiatrists, anaesthesiologists, jurists and users has established 23 recommendations in order to raise awareness and support the teams for the prevention, recognition and treatment of pain during the caesarean section under perimedullary anaesthesia (spinal, epidural or spinal). Ten of these recommendations were identified as key by the experts. Similarly, decision support has been produced in order to prepare and guide the teams in the best way possible. The purpose of these recommendations is to raise awareness and improve working practices so that the "live" caesarean section is no longer an acceptable hazard but a serious adverse event, which is prevented and combated by all.
