- Authors
PALUMBO, DAVID M.
- Abstract
The article presents a literary criticism of the book "A Vindication of the Rights of Woman" by Mary Wollstonecraft. It explores the roles of gender and passion in Wollstonecraft's mode of literary critique. Particular focus is given to her criticism of texts by writer Jonathan Swift. According to the author, Wollstonecraft developed a self-reflexive mode of reading which challenged gender norms and conventional interpretive practices while recognizing its own irony and ambivalence.
