- Abstract
Objectives: This study aims to investigate the social and cultural repercussions from the spread of the Coronavirus epidemic on the Kuwaiti society. The research examines such repercussions through daily life experiences, the Kuwaiti family, relatives, friends, traditions and customs, and how the state deals with the situation . Methodology: The study adopts a descriptive analytic methodology, using a survey for data collection and Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) for data analysis. The research adopted a random sampling approach, using an online survey distributed through Twitter, with 1855 participants from both genders, and of different social backgrounds from the Kuwaiti six Governorates . Results: The results have unveiled a realistic and practical reflection of the effects of the Coronavirus epidemic on the Kuwaiti society. It has shown to decision makers the changes of different facets that the study has focused on, particularly the relationships among family members, as well as relatives and friends. The study contributes to the Medical Sociology field, which has received little to no attention from those involved in sociology research in Kuwait. This is one of the first applied studies that records the social and cultural repercussions of the Coronavirus epidemic . Conclusion: This study has presented a practical representation of the effects of the Coronavirus epidemic on the Kuwaiti society to decision makers in the state. It has called for the importance of social solidarity, and the support of civil society institutions for their contribution in creating social balance. It has also noted the importance of creating collective awareness that contributes to coexistence and facing challenges.
