- Abstract
This article discusses the use of sipunculans, also known as peanut worms, as a marine resource in Brazil. Sipunculans are marine annelids that are traditionally used as food or fishing bait in countries like China, Vietnam, and Indonesia. In Brazil, sipunculans have recently been observed being collected for fishing bait by local fishermen. The collection methods, social and demographic aspects of the worm diggers, and the environmental impacts of bait digging are also discussed. The article emphasizes the need for further research and management strategies to understand the ecological pressures and ensure the sustainability of sipunculan populations in Brazil.
