- Title
The Price of Adaptation: Context, Pedagogy, and the Personal.
- Authors
Alberti, John; Konkle, Amanda
- Abstract
The authors share thoughts on how adaptations could transform the past for a revised political and cultural context, pedagogy and personal identity. They consider the potential for adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's same-gender affirming novel "The Price of Salt." They identify issues of contemporary conversation including homophobia, transphobia and ghosts of melodramatic masochism like the self-punishing maternal martyr and patriarchal heterosexuality that occurred in the film "Carol."
