- Abstract
The article discusses the different federal laws enacted in response to the need for historical preservation of landmarks. The National Foundation on the Arts and Humanities Act of 1965, The National Historic Preservatin Act of 1966 and the Department of Transportation Act of 1966 are specific laws that protect historical sites. Conflicts sometimes arise with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development when its projects necessitates tearing down historical sites or landmarks. Reasons and the importance of doing historical preservation are explained.
