- Abstract
Fortunately in August 2020 the first finding of the locust-chasing wasp Sphex funerarius happened in Upper Palatinate (Oberpfalz). The locality lies on the terrace sands of the Ehenbachtal near the city of Schnaittenbach-Haidhof (district Amberg-Sulzbach, North-Eastern Bavaria). The wasp could be seen visiting the blossoms of Marjoram (Origanum vulgare). A second place lies in a sand pit within fossil dunes of china clay near the city of Freihung (same County). The nest entrance was discovered beneath an old rotten Scots heather shrub. Further observations (documented by fotos) witness the spreading of this showy species in Bavaria, which Frommer (2020) characterized as "climatic caused area oscillation" followed by conquering new biotopes.
