- Abstract
The article discusses the different characteristics of the lullaby as presented in Yiddish folk songs of Germany. The Yiddish folk songs is a treasure trove of different lullabies that exhibits a sweet and calming melody and words which have a soothing effect that can lull a baby to sleep. Yiddish lullabies reflects on the fears and trepidation, hopes and aspirations and even the despair of persons who sing the song. The composition of the lullabies are said to have been caused by the suffering that was endured by the Jews during World War II that was done from the ghettos and concentration camps. Yiddish lullabies include "Mayne Yingele," "Yankele," and "Raisins and Almonds."
