- Abstract
«The space transformed through the Goya's mural paintings: the basilic of el Pilar and Saint Anthony of la Florida». The mural surface in an architectural setting has often been understood as decorative and complementary to the architecture. This study aims to show how the mural surface is not a complement; rather, the architecture can be classified as another of its elements, as it modifies the perception of space and works as another architectural element. We will study how architectural scale can cotribute to this understanding of mural painting by highlighting or cancelling out resources, such as light or composition, which are commonly used in mural paintings to modify the architectural space where they are commonly used in mural painting to modify the architectural space where they are found. We will come to this understanding through two mural works by Goya: the Regina Martyrum fresco inside one of the domes of the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar and the mural paintings in the chapel of san Antonio de la Florida. In the latter, Goya achieved a so-called "magical atmosphere," whereas he did not achieve this sensation in the basilica.
