- Abstract
Our aim was to study at what age argentine children acquire object permanence. There is still no consensus as to when this notion arises in human development. Methodology: the argentine scale of sensor motor intelligence was administered to 996 argentine infants from 6 to 30 months old. This scale evaluates, in one of its series, searching actions for the hidden object. We calculated an estimated age in which the majority of the children fulfill each stage. Results: From the age of 8 months the children begin to look for an object that is hidden with visible displacement. No child under 12 months reaches the net acquisition of object permanence (invisible displacement). 77% get it after 18 months. Conclusions: our results confirm the ages established by piaget regarding the stages of object permanence acquisition.
