In the article the author reflects on his role as professor of Russian language in the 21st century. Topics discussed include his trip to Leningrad with a group of 150- and American students in the summer of 1967, the six-week intensive training program in Russia introduced at Georgetown University, the different approaches to teaching Russian language, programs of Middlebury College for students in Moscow, Yaroslavl and Irkutsk, and the factors behind the success of language students.
