- Abstract
Today, alcohol and cigarette product placement practices are quite common. In this study, it was examined how alcohol and cigarette placements were carried out in Emmy awarded series. For this purpose, 3 episodes from 10 series, which have Emmy Awards and high IMDB scores, were selected randomly and the research questions were answered by examining a total of 30 episodes through content analysis method. According to the results of the analysis, alcohol product placements in Emmy awarded series are more common than cigarette product placements, and products were usually displayed visually in product placements. In parallel with the number of stages, the period of alcohol product placements are longer than cigarette product placements. In addition, it has been determined that the actors in the stages where alcohol or cigarette placements are integrated are mostly males. Since there is no research in the literature that examines alcohol and cigarette product placement practices in series, it is anticipated that this study will contribute to the literature and following studies.
