- Abstract
Acute phase proteins (APF) has been used as biomarkers of inflammation, infection or trauma, particularly in human medicine; therefore, already has research in the area of veterinary medicine. In this topic, there have been some recent studies in both pets and farm animals. The dominant biomarker as an indicator of disease have been mainly protein C-reactive, haptoglobin, amyloid serum, isoform of amyloid serum A-3 and glycoproteins. The response rate of these biomarkers or APF differs by species; but in all cases they can assist in the diagnosis of disease, monitoring periods of convalescence, and/or animal welfare indicators.
