- Title
RU 486 Softens the Cervix.
- Abstract
The article presents information about antiprogestin mifepristone or widely known as RU 486. The antiprogestin mifepristone (known widely as RU 486) decreases cervical resistance to dilatation in both pregnant and nonpregnant women, according to a recently reported pair of double-blind studies. The investigators note that the biological reason for this effect is unclear and requires further study, but that mifepristone may prove helpful not just in first-trimester abortions but in procedures such as IUD insertion and removal, endometrial sampling, laser treatment of cervical lesions and diagnostic curettage.
