- Abstract
The Urban Trails integrates the activities of the Urban and Regional Planning Laboratory (LAPUR), in the Geography Department of the UFC, which in partnership with the Ceará Institute and the Observatory of the Metropolises Núcleo Fortaleza carries out 4 trails through the Trilhas Urbanas extension project: Geographic Routes in the City of Fortaleza, resulting from field work with routes in the urban space of the center of Fortaleza. Field work as a basic teaching methodology for geographic knowledge is carried out after research according to the elaboration of the itinerary for each urban trail. Carrying out activities with students from basic and higher education, public and private education and other sectors of society (Institutes, Study Centers, NGOs) contributes to the appreciation of historical heritage, closer contact with the geography of the place, as well as to verify the change of function of the Center of Fortaleza, which was once the place of Ceará's elite and is now a place of consumption for the city's low-income population. Shops and cafeterias are multiplying and the squares, which previously functioned as leisure spaces for the bourgeois population, are now locus of underemployment and business spaces in the lower circuit of the economy. With the growth of sub-centers, it is worth confirming that a spatial reconfiguration of the center of Fortaleza has been taking place with fixed spaces linked to both the upper and lower circuits of the urban economy. Following Geography as a methodology for learning the geography of the city in the center of Fortaleza makes it possible to perceive changes in society in space and time, as well as the place of encounter as subjects of transformation.
