- Abstract
Aim: Assess the clinical characteristics of patients with sensory heterotropia. Material And Method: The records of the patients diagnosed with sensory heterotropia were assessed as retrospectively. Type of strabismus, etiology, organic pathology and the age of onset at visual loss were recorded. Results: Of the 164 patients, 120 (73.2%) developed esotropia, 44 (26.8%) developed exotropia. 102 (62.2%) patients had congenital vision loss; 73 (71.5%) developed esotropia, 29 (28.4%) developed exotropia. 62 (37.8%) patients had acquired vision loss; 7 (11.3%) developed esotropia, 55 (88.7%) developed exotropia. The average age at onset of deviation was 4,8 in esotropia and 9,1 in exotropia. A significant difference was noted between age at onset and type of horizontal strabismus (p<0,05). Conclusion: As a conlusion esotropia was found more frequently due to early onset of visual impairment. The type of horizontal deviation in sensory heterotropia was thought to depend on patient age at the time of vision loss.
