- Title
Theological Alterations in the Syriac Translation of Ben Sira.
- Authors
Winter, Michael M.
- Abstract
An essay is presented discussing the linguistic alterations in the Syriac translation of the apocryphal book Ben Sira. The author suggests that theological agendas lay behind many of the translations, arguing that one translation was offered by the Ebionites and another by orthodox Christians after the Arian controversy. The codices of the Peshitta and the Septuagint (LXX) are discussed, along with the influence of the Essene sect on the translators.
