- Title
Effort and Grace: On the Spiritual Exercise of Philosophy.
- Authors
Springsted, Eric O.
- Abstract
For Kotva, Weil's Stoicism of her early years actually contained an Augustinian seed. The claim, novel as it was to us, was far less so to French philosophers who had a long tradition of thinking of philosophy as a spiritual matter. What Kotva says, though, surely demands that it happen somewhere, because, while I think her case has lacunae, she says so much that is important about Weil's conscious admiration for Stoicism, that it would be a mistake not to continue the job she has started with closer textual examination.
