- Abstract
The article focuses on plant biology and symbolism found in European-Mediterranean culture. In comparison with water lilies or Nymphaeaceae, the floral axis of Indian lotus or Nelumbo nucifera is in the ford of a solid inverted cone and is distributed in stagnant waters on the Indian subcontinent and in Southeast Asia. While water lilies symbolizes the union of upper and lower Egypt during pharaonic rules, the lotus is considered the first-born of creation.
