- Abstract
The patronage of the evangelical nobility in the true sense of the word can only be spoken of after the final consolidation of the Lutheran reform movement in Royal Hungary, which was created mainly due to the fact that even in the second half of the 17th century, a large part of the nobility and also high-ranking magnates supported the reformation. Conditions were created for the evangelical church not only to organize territorially, but also to develop all the characteristic features of the Reformation. Among them, of course, was the development of education and culture. Without the patronage of the nobility, this development of education and culture could not have taken place in the form we know it. It is typical for this time that the centers of education and culture were created in the residences of important nobles, in addition to urban agglomerations. One such center in the Trenčín county was undoubtedly the small town of Bytča, where one of the most powerful men - Palatine, George Thurzo, had his residence. On the example of his patronage over the evangelical church, it is possible to see all forms of patronage also applied by other evangelical nobility.
