- Abstract
The article examines the depiction of suicide, or self-murder, in British films released in the late 1940s. It explores films such as "Mine Own Executioner," "The Seventh Veil," "The Red Shoes," and "The October Man" while examining themes such as the psychological state of soldiers and prisoners-of-war returning home in the wake of World War II, mental illness and detachment. Additionally, the article examines how the British Board of Film Classification viewed the depiction of suicide in motion pictures.
