- Abstract
This study examined the correlation between the daily frequency of minum (tea break custom in Malaysia) and diet-related quality of life (QOL) among Malaysian university students. A total of 632 students from MARA University of Technology participated in this dietary habit survey between March and April 2019. Information on personal attributes (i.e., sex, age, height, and weight), minum frequency, and diet-related QOL was obtained from the participants and was analyzed. The participants were categorized into groups based on minum frequency, and the differences in the average rank of the four diet-related QOL items between the groups were analyzed by Kruskal--Wallis test. The differences in the average rank of the four diet-related QOL items between the attributes were analyzed by Mann--Whitney U test. The diet-related QOL did not vary significantly between males and females and between the university campuses. Students with a high frequency of minum had higher diet-related QOL scores overall, especially in "Are meals enjoyable?" In addition, a moderate correlation was found between "Is minum enjoyable?" and "Do you feel satisfied with minum?" Students who enjoyed the minum and participated frequently were satisfied with the minum. Therefore, minum may influence a favorable diet-related QOL.
