- Abstract
The article discusses labor relations in South African during the early 2010s, with a particular focus on the political aspects of the 2012 gold miners' strike and subsequent massacre in Marikana, South Africa. An overview of the rivalry between the South African political party the African National Congress (ANC), the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU) and the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) is provided. The NUM members' relationship with the NUM leaders is discussed.
