- Abstract
The pneumatology of Saint Irenaeus has aroused a new interest in the 20th century, among other things, because of its deeply biblical character and its roots in the primitive Judeo-Christian reflection. Irenaeus develops his pneumatology through his exegesis of Scripture in which he highlights the metaphors that allude to the Holy Spirit: Wisdom of God, Hand of the Father, Anointing of Christ, the Wedding Dress, etc. This study analyses the pneumatology of Irenaeus in the context of the solid unity of his thought and the close relationship between soteriology and pneumatology. Gnostic doctrines distorted the truth about God and rejected the salvation of the flesh. Thus, Irenaeus emphasizes the work of God in salvation thought the metaphors of the Spirit by describing this work as the Trinitarian gift of incorruption to his creature. The research shows that the Holy Spirit acts through all the milestones of the Economy of Salvation: the creation of the cosmos, the shaping of the human being, the anointing of Christ and the divinization of the Christian. This excerptum contains the last part, about the work of the Spirit in the Christian.
