- Abstract
The article presents the discussion on the paper of professor Iida Kiyoshi of the Miyagi National College of Technology on hip hop and social justice presented at the Nagoya American Studies Summer Seminar (NASSS) 2009 from July 25 to 28, 2009 in Japan. The paper focuses on the social message of hip hop and rap music in the history of African American cultural movements after the Harlem Renaissance on the early 20th century. It also cites the comments of professor Honjo Seiji of Hokkai-Gakun University on the paper presented by Iida on issues such as race, gender, art, and ideology. It also presents the floor discussion and the moderator's impression on the hip hop culture that represents the existence of African American.
