A reprint of an article that originally appeared web site Civil War Interactive is presented on the subject of the experience of Union and Confederate military surgeons during the July 1863 U.S. Civil War engagement the Battle of Gettysburg. The article discusses medical innovations utilized during the battle, treating of the wounded, and the organization of the the Army of the Potomac (AOP) led by AOP medical director Jonathan Letterman, and the organization of the medical corps of the Army of Northern Virginia (ANV).
